A loose drain valve
If the drain valve on your water heater becomes loose, water can begin to seep out and spread on the floor. If water appears to be leaking from the valve, try tightening it with a wrench until it is snug, but be careful not to over-tighten it.
Too much pressure
It is possible that your water heater can build up so much pressure that it can cause leaks. This can happen with the water temperature is set too high or the exterior water supply is coming in at too high of a pressure for the tank.
A storage tank that is cracked
Water heaters are built with a glass-lined storage tank. This glass-lined storage tank, over time, can become eroded by the water inside the tank. Also, as water is heated, it expands. Over time, this expansion creates stress on the glass lining of the heater and can cause it to crack. When this occurs, unfortunately, you will need to replace your water heater.
There are many other issues that can lead to a water heater leak like loose fixtures, improper draining, and the overall age of your unit. If you have experienced property damage due to a leaking water heater and you are battling with your insurance company about your claim, then we encourage you to contact Global Public Adjusters Inc today.
